Stroud's Restaurant
As you can see this restaurant uses every inch of space, including this fireplace mantel for dish storage. This house was built in 1829 as a two room log cabin and grew as the children arrived until it finished as a 10 room house. In 1954 the house was purchased for a restaurant which to this day serves traditional fried chicken family style. There are other specialties served but plates of fried chicken, green beans, potatoes and cinnamon rolls are the norm. Since this is an old log cabin, the rooms are cozy and there is always a line waiting for the restaurant to open. Everyone is content to wait for the dinner awaiting them.

Through the Vine
Some of you may be familiar with Lidia Bastianich from the Food Channel or cookbooks, her name is well known. This is her restaurant here in KC just down the street from the Kauffman Center and the food is fabulous. The space is in a former railroad house and resembles a large Italian farmhouse. This area is known as the Freight House district and is just north across the railroad tracks from Union Station.
The trees up front are suffering from the extreme heat we have experienced for the last two weeks. The Missouri river is still high and a major highway north to Omaha is still closed due to flooding.

Kauffman Center of Performing Arts Update III
This is my last photo of the Kauffman Center for a while, but I will bring you more : ) The Kauffman Center website provides information about the building and Community Day on September 18, 2011 when the center will host an open house to the public, including short performances and opportunities to see backstage area. Jazz recording artist Diana Krall will be performing the opening weekend on Sept 17th. Legends Placido Domingo and Itzhak Perlman as well as the Kansas City Symphony will also be performing opening weekend.
I already have my calendar saved for these events.

Last of the Succotash
As you all have seen this restaurant has provided many photo opportunities. Since I received many questions about the food, I will say that yes the food is excellent. This restaurant is only open M-F for breakfast and lunch. I had lunch and am wanting to visit for breakfast soon.

Succotash
At 2:00 yesterday afternoon it started to snow. By 3:30 the roads were a mess. Trying to get to a highway and avoid some traffic I took some streets not on my normal route and came across this wonderful chandelier outside the Succotash Restaurant. Today I had to go out and capture this photo. Succotash website also had a photo of the chandelier. My neighborhood received 9 new inches of snow and there are predictions for several more chances of snow in the next week.
