Monday Murals

These are the front and back of one mural.  I tried to arrange side by side and somedays it works and others it doesn't.  This is my third week of Monday Murals bringing you D. Ross, Scribes, work on the back of FOXX Equipment at Broadway and Southwest Blvd.

Something unexpected came up last week and kept me away from blogging, and I need to take a little more time away to take care of an issue.  I hope to return soon.  Joy to all!

Signs, Signs

I liked the name of this sign, I am going to wander down to this local on First Friday soon.  Might not be this Friday.  Temps in the triple digits keep me inside, but soon.

Monday Murals

Foxx Equipment Company at Broadway and Southwest Blvd has many walls on the back of their building for murals.  The one I showed you last week in on the wall to the left.  D. Ross known as Scribes created these murals.  I will be showing you the wall on the right next Monday.

I have joined Monday Murals to see more murals visit Oakland Daily Photos.

Theme Day - Chimney

I've often seen this huge old building off the highway on my way to work.  Lately I been driving through the area just south of downtown.  Lots of chimneys on this building.

The first day of every month is Theme Day at CDP. Click here to see more.

I am getting a sql error when I attempt to get to CDP to link to Theme Day, but Julie in Sydney has been so wonderful to provide a place to gather the Theme Day photos.  Click here

Coming in July

The same windy day I shot my Friday Skywatch last week, I also took a photo outside Kauffman Stadium where the Kansas City Royals (baseball) play.  Both Arrowhead and Kauffman Stadiums are in the same huge space.  The All Star game coming in July will be played right here in Kansas City

Skywatch Friday - Arrowhead Stadium

I was over by Arrowhead Stadium on Wednesday and lots of clouds in the sky and windy.  It is always nice to go by the stadiums when not many others are around, easier to stop for a photo.

Lace Cap

Hydrageas grow so well in Kansas City.  I've had this plant for several years and only received a couple of blooms on the back side of the plant that received the most sun.  Last fall I transplanted this Lace Cap Hydrangea to a spot that had a little more morning sun and it has thanked me with abundant blooms.  The blooms will look nice all summer.

Wednesday Doorway and Signs, signs

This cafe next the studio Enhance your Art is owned by head chef Shanita McAfee.  This was initially a catering business but clients love her items and thus a cafe was born.  Magnolias serves Southern cuisine.  Excellent place to eat.  Shanita is also involve with the efforts of the Longfellow neighborhood.

Studio Tour - the end

The last of my studio tour features work by the metal artist Nick Berardi.  One shot I missed was Tim Burton in his framing shop.  I should have learned from Jack, HDP, about portraits and gotten a shot of my tour guide, Tim.  I do have a poster from Seville, Spain I need framed...

I do love that lamp but would have redo the whole decor in my house!

Studio Tour IV

Two more mixed media pieces by Dwain Michael Workman.  I like the lower piece with the metal frame, carved and painted wood, and the different objects.  It just provides lots to observe.

Alley Community Garden

Since today is Thursday, I first want to take you out back behind the Enhance Your Art studio to display the Alley Community Garden.  Taken from the link below:

What was once urban blight has now become "The Alley Garden" and Art project located in the Alley of the 2900 block of Cherry.  Our intention is to create a space for community gardening, public gatherings, education of healthy food practices and to beautify the landscape of the Longfellow Neighborhood.

The Longfellow Community Association is working towards establishing the Longfellow Farmer's Market and Teaching Garden.  The proposed site is located at 29th St and Gillham Rd.  Spearheaded by the Longfellow Community Association, this project has the support of local businesses and institutions as it moves forward with a test market during the summer months of 2012.

Farmer's Market is every Thursday evening from 4-9 pm

This neighborhood is making a revitalizing recovery.  This farmer's market is close to Hospital Hill, Hallmark, Crown Center, Penn Valley Park and could become a huge success with your support.

Wednesday Doorway

I was out looking for a new restaurant on Cherry St in the Longfellow Neighborhood or also known as Hospital Hill area.  Right next to the restaurant I found this fabulous sculpture and art studio.  Usually I have my camera with me but this time I did not, so I went back the next day which ended up being quite fortunate for me.  The studio garage door was open when I went back for this photo.  Tim from Enhance Your Art studio gave me a full tour.  The metal artist of the above piece is Nick Berardi, I have many pieces to show you in the upcoming days.  Anyone out on First Friday should venture by this studio even though it is slightly off the main Crossroads tracks.

Hydrangea - Pink

Last fall these were blue, but I didn't get the stuff in the soil this spring to make them blue, so have pink hydrangeas.  These grow so well in the midwest.  I gave up on roses, because black spot disease takes over no matter how hard I worked to keep it out.  They have some disease proof roses for the midwest but they are all over town and I like the unique ones.  I have partial sun in my backyard and these do quite well and they divide quite easily.

Monday Murals

From the Avenue of Murals in Kansas City, KS, this one is called the Kansan Printer.  It depicts a printer at a handpress.  It was designed with the help of retired printers who worked at the Kansas City Kansan newspaper.  The artists are Jose Faus and Alisha Gambino.

From the WWI Museum.

I have been out of town and all I have to say is life got the best of me.  This year I've had more difficulty getting my posts up on my blog when I travel.  Time becomes minimal and I give into exhaustion.

Tile in New Mexico

I took mostly family photos during my visit to NM.  This is the entrance to Old Town Plaza.  I liked the tile work, I'm sure I have seen it many times before but I wasn't looking back then.  I was quite surprise with all the murals and art pieces scattered throughout the city.  Driving around with  my brothers family made it difficult to stop, but my eyes did feast on the changes to the area.
