Liberty Square

I live very close to the Square in Liberty so you see many photos of the area.  The Farmers Market is held here every Saturday morning from spring to fall.  Festivals, parades, music and many events take place on the square around the Clay County Court House which I showed you here and in a reflection here.

Stairway to...

I liked the looks of these stairs on a gray morning in downtown Liberty, MO

These are ceramic murals on the buildings around the Clay County Courthouse in Liberty, MO. They show a number of historical scenes found in Clay County.  I took this photo at an angle to display the texture.  I tried to find more information about the artist, Monks Taylor, but only found a tattoo artist from Ohio.

Maple in the Spring

The color of this maple tree leaves stood out boldly in the sun.

I had several comments about flooding on the Missouri River after I posted a photo on Saturday.  I wanted to say the flooding has been on the other side of the state in St Louis and now down in Memphis.  KC has not had near the rain or storms that St Louis has had this spring.

Liberty Historical Society Walking Tour

I showed you this church in March and have been meaning to get back for a glimpse inside.  The Historical Society of Liberty, MO has started their summer walking tours on the first Saturday of the month.  When I read they were starting with historic churches in downtown Liberty I leaped at the opportunity to get on the inside track.  Imagine my disappointment when I found we could not get inside two of the churches including this one.  What I hadn't noticed prior to this tour was the gargoyle (I think it looks like a dog) on the tower.  I also learned that back in the early 19th century, churches had two doors at the front, one for men to enter and one for women.

Gloomy Day

Even though the temperature made it into the 40's today, a cool wind from the north and cloudy skies kept it feeling cold.  This church in Liberty, MO had a face lift in the last year.  Notice the chimney brick compared to the Steeple brick.  This church is a beauty to keep maintained.  I do love the old churches, although this one I didn't get an opportunity to visit inside, perhaps on another trip since this area is close to home.

Clay County Courthouse

I have always liked this building, it was built by Wight and Wight of Kansas City.

Holiday Greetings

While on Liberty square, I was intrigued with these stairs, took several pictures.  I like the detail in the rod iron and I love the holiday arrangement.

Cold Weather on Liberty Square

I was in downtown Liberty, MO yesterday on what was a very cold, windy day.  I would pull my hands out of my coat pockets just long enough to take a quick picture.  I couldn't believe how quickly my hands started to hurt from the cold.  I live in the Liberty area of Kansas City and enjoy visiting the shops on the square.  I frequent the Liberty Farmers Market on the square during the summer months.  Lots of activity happens in downtown Liberty,  Spring and Harvest Festivals, Art Shows, and the local High Schools Homecoming parades end on the Square to name a few.
