Liberty Historical Society Walking Tour

I showed you this church in March and have been meaning to get back for a glimpse inside.  The Historical Society of Liberty, MO has started their summer walking tours on the first Saturday of the month.  When I read they were starting with historic churches in downtown Liberty I leaped at the opportunity to get on the inside track.  Imagine my disappointment when I found we could not get inside two of the churches including this one.  What I hadn't noticed prior to this tour was the gargoyle (I think it looks like a dog) on the tower.  I also learned that back in the early 19th century, churches had two doors at the front, one for men to enter and one for women.

I don't see gargoyles all too often in the USA, this is great!

What an interesting gargoyle. I agree, it looks like a dog. I have a friend who went to college in Liberty.

Very strange-looking gargoyle and such an odd position. He does look like a dog. Looks like a gorgeous day.

Funny gargoyle. I don't see them very often, either.

I have to agree with everyone about the gargoyle.

Very interesting gargoyle. I recently found some items which I think are in that same family. I shall post them soon--you've inspired me, Regina.
