Country Club District

The Country Club District is just south of the Country Club Plaza, both developed by J C Nichols.  This is a group of historical upscale neighborhoods.  The area was built in stages between 1906 and 1950.  This area goes on forever with tall tree lined streets, deep lawns and beautiful homes.

Happy Halloween

Meyers Circle Fountain

Named The Seahorse Fountain.  JC Nichols developed the Country Club Plaza and this area south of the Plaza.   I displayed many photo of the Plaza in Sept.   JC Nichols found the center piece of this fountain in Venice, Italy where it had stood for 300 years.  He purchased it and the fountain was completed in 1925.   This fountain has survived vandalism and car crashes.

Under 17th St Viaduct

I was out shooting more photo's this morning when I realized I hadn't put up my post last night.  The World Series took me away from it.  Heading to StL DP to see what Bob has to say.  Happy Saturday.

Good to the Last Drop

Found on the property of a Northland Restaurant which I will be bringing you more photo's of in the coming days.  The Northland is known in KC as the area North of the Missouri River.  This area is still Kansas City including many suburbs.

Let me add - GOOOO  CARDINALS

Neighbor

My neighbor's farm has a group of beautiful maples that hide the house.  I love the red carpet made by the fallen leaves.

Field Work

This farm is behind my home.  Last weekend they mowed the field and above the hay is being prepared for baling.  Today the field is full of round bales of hay.  One of the beauties of the midwest is harvesting.

Lights

Yesterday a friend and I attended a huge Holiday Mart at Bartle Hall and while walking on the streets of downtown KC, a wonderful man told us of a short cut by entering through the KC Convention Center.  Upon entering, we found these fantastic lights just inside the entrance of the convention center.  I can only imagine how magnificent these would look at night opposed to during day with light streaming through all the large windows.

Details - Garment District

Building details always attract my eye.  One of my favorite blocks in downtown KCMO is known as the Garment District.  Another favorite is the weekend, Friday is here.  Happy Friday.

Sunday Morning Coffee

This was taken a month ago on a glorious Sunday morning at a local coffee shop.  We have had a warm and dry October.   The weather forecast this week suggests that is to change.  Well it is back to Monday and work.

Evening out with Friends

A group of friends went to see the Tom Sawyer Ballet last night at the Kauffman Center of the Performing Arts. Dinner started the evening, no place special, just a group of friends have a great evening.  For several of us this was our first ballet.  It was quite enjoyable, good company, good food, good dance.  Enjoy your Sunday everyone.

St Marys IV

This is the last of St Mary's Academy and College.  There are just over a handful of building on the campus and this one I would guess is boarding or dorms.  It sits up on a hill and is completely hidden behind trees.  If I hadn't taken a dirt road by mistake I wouldn't have found it.

Weekend Reflection

If there is a college there must be a town.  Have a good weekend everyone.

St Mary's III

I displayed The World War memorial arch two days ago.  This bench and wall around the arch were in ruins and I thought they would make a good subject.  This arch has proven to be picturesque.

St Mary's Kansas II

After I took the photo of the arch shown yesterday, I decided to drive around the small campus of St Mary's Academy and College.  I found this wonderful limestone building.  AMDG or Ad Majorem Del Gloriam.

St Mary's Kansas

St. Mary's Academy and College is a Traditional Catholic School.  It was originally a mission founded in 1848 that provided schooling for the Potawatomi Indians.  The Oregon Trail passed right thru the area and the mission offered mass, rest and change of horses before the travelers took off across the prairie.  Today this is a liberal arts college promoting the possibility of a religious vocation.

I have driven past this arch many times and finally took the time to stop.

Wandering Around the State of Kansas

Yesterday I went to Manhattan, Kansas to visit my aunt.  It is a mere two hours drive west of KC.  Part of my route takes me through small towns, my favorite being St. Mary's, Kansas.  On my way back I found this old 1939 Dodge 4 door parked in downtown St. Mary's.  I did not see this earlier in the day when I drove thru town, so I can assume it's engine is working.  Even though this car is not beautifully restored, I still loved seeing it on the roads.  Takes me back to my childhood days when these cars were common on the roadways.  Dodge cars seem to have a following in small farm towns.

I have been corrected this is a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe

Occupy KC

This week the Occupy KC set up a small protest across the street from the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.  Since this is in Penn Valley Park by the Liberty Memorial, there are many walkers in this areas, including me.  The temperature was nice all week and these occupiers were kind of hostel toward us walkers, it also appeared that during the daytime hours they populated the area with people that did not normally work those hours and also did not appear to bathe.  This week the group heads into downtown KC.

Intercontinental Hotel Fountain

The sound from this fountain is quite relaxing in the middle of hustle and bustle of the Country Club Plaza.

Weekend Reflection

There was a colorful abstract piece of art in this building that is interrupted with the reflection.  It is a long weekend for me, I hope everyone has a wonderful relaxing weekend full of friends and fun events.

Crown Center Square Fountain

Another fountain.  Hallmark World Headquarter office buildings are in the background.

Triple Crown

I have shot this particular sculpture many, many times and have never been  satisfied.  Last week I took several more shots from all sides and was pleased with the Liberty Memorial in the center background.  This weekend our Sunday newspaper had a small article about this Triple Crown by Kenneth Snelson, 1991.  This sculpture is the study of physics and form. Each of the three arches is composed of stainless steel tubes held together by tension.

Crown Center Walkway again

Above is the entrance to Crown Center (a unique shopping mall owned by Hallmark).  To the right you can see the walkway from yesterday's photo.  The photo at left is another view from inside the walkway toward the Hyatt Hotel (a restaurant on top slowly cirles the city).  In this photo you can see more of the walkway in the lower center by the office building.  This particular walkway cross 2 streets and connect 3 buildings.  At another point in Crown Center there is a walkway again crossing 2 streets to Union Station.  Here is a photo of Union Station from last winter that shows the walkway on the center right.

Walkway

This is a walkway between Crown Center, Union Station, Hyatt Hotel and office buildings.  I had fun taking lots of photos in this walkway.  You may see others in the future.
