Eagle Statue

This Eagle statue, originally stood in a courtyard of a Japanese temple.  It was made in the 1700's in Japan and was in the Japanese exhibit at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1904.  J. C. Nichols bought the piece and installed in Kansas City in 1935.

That statue has quite a lengthy history.

So, this eagle is special on many grounds. It is in America, though not made FOR America, and it celebrates the national bird of America even though the sculptor did not have the bald eagle in mind when he created it.

I am surprised that it is outside and unprotected. The weather will wear it down over the years.
