Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis

I was in St Louis recently and visited this amazing cathedral.  There were so many chapels and colors to capture in photos.  I debated whether I could post St. Louis photos on my Kansas City blog.  It is 4 hours away.  I have posted photos of locations within the Kansas City area but never another city where other CDP bloggers exist.  I decided after much deliberation that I had to share this experience on my blog.  Please forgive me if I have stepped out of my boundaries.

The building of  Cathedral Basilica of St Louis Romanesque style was started in 1907.  It is the largest collection of mosaic art in the world.  It was created by 20 different artist and covers 83,000 square feet.  The installation of the mosaics began in 1912 and completed in 1988.  There are many chapels, domes and bays depicting different scenes from the story of the Catholic Faith.  If you are ever in St. Louis this is a must see.  As many times as I have been to St Louis this was the first time I heard of this cathedral.

I will be displaying several photos from this Cathedral in the upcoming week.  Thanks for allowing me this diversion from Kansas City.

Regina, it is a gorgeous place. I can certainly see why you were inspired. On other blogs I have read debates about what you can and can't, should or shouldn't, post. Some well respected CDP bloggers restrict themselves to their city limits. For what it is worth, my attitude is a more liberal one. It is your blog. Many of the best CDP blogs often post from outside their home cities. So long as you have a strong anchor to your general geographic area, if you want to go outside on occasion, go ahead!

What the Catholic Church has always lacked in intelligence and common sense, they seemed to have tried to make up for with beautiful architecture. This, certainly, is a case in point. Thanks for the shots. I didn't know this was over in St. Loo.
