Leavenworth
The first time I saw US Penitentiary, Leavenworth I thought it was quite ominous. In film Leavenworth was always known as the prison with the worst criminals. Built in 1897, it was the largest maximum security prison in the US until 2005 when it became a minimum security.
You might notice the humidity haze in the second photo. Humidity causes our skies to be hazy.
Fort Leavenworth is directly north of the prison. I always enjoy a drive thru the post and have a few pictures to display over the next few days.

Read a lot about it, hate it...
Wow that really is "ominous". If those walls could talk.
I think it's actually quite beautiful for a prison.
Wow, a place I've heard about many, many times and never seen. Thanks for sharing.
Great stories inside these walls, I bet.
Very imposing! Severe weather still about in your area!
It looks like the place where the legislature meets. Oh, wait, it is!
