I liked these old windows on the Eldridge Hotel. The hotel on this site originally opened as the Free State Hotel in honor of the intention that Kansas join the Union as a free state. In 1856 the hotel was burned by Sherriff Sam Jones and his pro-slavery posse. Kansas being a free state and Missouri being a pro-slavery state was the start of the ongoing border war.
